FeNO Examination

NIOX VERO is a unique device for the evaluation of airway inflammation in patients with respiratory problems, such as asthma. NIOX VERO measures Fractional exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) which enables to exactly measure the level of allergic airway inflammation.

Regular FeNO examination helps to:

establish whether inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) treatment is suitable or not
to optimize the dosage of ICS and decrease the number of exacerbations (worsening of asthma) by up to 50%
determine if the patient is following his/her treatment and medication properly or not
results are known within 1 minute.

NIOX is a gold standard to measure the exhaled nitrix oxide, supported by European Respiratory Society (ERS) and American Thoracic Society (ATS).

How is Nitric Oxide measured?

The FeNO test is performed by using a portable device, which measures the level of nitric oxide while you slowly and steadily exhale air from your lungs. This is different from most other similar tests, where you need to blow hard and fast to get an accurate measurement.

Why is Nitric Oxide measured?

Your allergist may use this test to determine if you have allergic or eosinophilic asthma or not or whether you have the typical inflammation associated with these types of asthma. Repeated checks also serve to find out if the prescribed medication is working and is lowering the nitric oxide level or not.

What is Nitric Oxide

It is a gas that is produced by the cells involved in the inflammation that is associated with allergic or eosinophilic asthma.
