Chronic ischaemic heart disease - don't wait for warnings, act early

Ischemia of the heart (ischemic heart disease, IHD), also known as coronary arteriosclerosis, is one of the most common and serious heart diseases. It is a condition in which there is a narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries that supply oxygen to the heart muscle. Without an adequate supply of oxygen, heart tissue is damaged and in extreme cases, myocardial infarction occurs.

If you are experiencing symptoms or are in an at-risk group, never wait to see a doctor! Early diagnosis and examination of your heart can save your life.

Why go to the doctor?

  • Detecting the disease early increases the chances of living a full life without limitations

Ischemic heart disease and its symptoms

Coronary artery disease refers to the coronary arteries that nourish the heart. It manifests itself mainly in the chest, but the pain can also 'shoot' into the neck, shoulders, jaw or left arm.

Manifestations can vary according to the severity and type of disease. In the case of ICHS, the symptoms are most often as follows:

  • Chest pressure or pain
  • Shortness of breath, especially on physical exertion
  • Fatigue and general weakness
  • Nausea
  • Palpitations of the heart
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Sweating without apparent cause

In some cases, the disease can develop quietly, without any noticeable symptoms, and the first warning is often a heart attack.

Triggers and risk factors

You already know what IHD is, but what triggers cardiac ischaemia? A combination of genetic, lifestyle and health factors influence the development of IHD:

  • High blood pressure.
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Smoking
  • Diabetes (diabetes mellitus)
  • Obesity and lack of exercise
  • Stress
  • Unbalanced diet
  • Family history of heart disease

Ischemic heart disease: treatment

The treatment of IHD depends on the type and severity of the disease. It includes:

  • Lifestyle changes - dietary changes, exercise, stress reduction, no smoking
  • Medication - e.g. statins, beta-blockers, anticoagulants
  • Interventional procedures - angioplasty, stent placement or bypass surgery
  • Rehabilitation and long-term monitoring (holter for heart)

At ATODA Medical we provide you with a comprehensive heart examination, an individual treatment plan and access to top specialists in a comfortable environment without unnecessary waiting.

Consequences of untreated coronary artery disease

You already know the causes and treatment, but what happens if you don't address the problem?

Untreated CHD can lead to a number of serious health complications:

  • Heart attack
  • Heart failure
  • Heart rhythm disorders (cardiac arrhythmias)
  • Permanent damage to the heart muscle
  • Acute ischemia and sudden cardiac death

I chose this medical facility based on the fact that when you make an appointment, (admittedly for a fee) the doctor will spend over an hour with you. The friendly and helpful staff at the reception will explain everything to you and then the doctor will personally come for you.I can only recommend it.
