Molluscum in Children and Adults: Symptoms, Triggers

What is molluscum? It is an infectious skin lesion caused by viruses called Molluscum contagiosum. What do mollusks look like? These lesions are characterized by the presence of small, pearly white, or pink round formations on the skin. These formations are painless but can be itchy. They can appear individually or in small groups.

Molluscum is more common in children but can also occur in adults. Transmission can occur through direct contact with an infected person or contaminated objects such as towels or clothing.

Mollusks: Treatment at ATODA Medical

At ATODA Medical, we treat molluscum using various methods, which are used alone or in combination. We address everything depending on the size, location, and number of lesions, as well as the patient's individual preferences and medical assessment. We use common treatment methods:

  • Surgical removal: Removal through surgical procedures such as cutting out lesions with a scalpel. Surgical removal is effective for removing individual large or resistant lesions.
  • Cryotherapy: Removal by freezing with liquid nitrogen. This method causes freezing and subsequent cell death of the lesion. Cryotherapy is often used to remove smaller mollusks.
  • Electrocoagulation: Using electrical current to remove mollusks. Electrocoagulation is performed using a small electrode needle applied to the surface of the lesion, causing its destruction through thermal effects.
  • Autovaccine: Tissue samples are taken from infected lesions, processed, and used to create a vaccine. This vaccine is then applied back to the patient's body to stimulate the immune system to fight the infection.

It is important to note that each treatment method has its advantages and disadvantages, and the appropriate choice of treatment should be individually tailored to each patient. It is also important to follow the doctor's instructions and regularly attend follow-up appointments to ensure proper monitoring and management of the disease.

Mollusks: How to Get Rid of Them?

As mentioned above, molluscum treatment may involve removal by a doctor using various methods such as surgical removal, cryotherapy, or chemical treatment. It is important to leave the treatment to the doctor, as unprofessional removal may cause the infection to spread.

Mollusks can occur anywhere on the body, such as:

  • on the face (on the eyelid),
  • on the limbs (on the fingers, mollusks in the armpits),
  • on the buttocks,
  • mollusks on the genitals (vaginal) and so on.

If left untreated, mollusks can spread to other parts of the body or to other people. In people with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS or people undergoing chemotherapy, they can cause more serious complications.

Communication with everyone from the reception to the doctors is with such a pleasantly human atmosphere with a highly professional approach. I paid my membership right away and was delighted. The appointment was always for the exact hour, you can still have a fresh coffee in the lounge. Lucie.
