A shortened penile glans (frenulum breve) can cause pain and complications during erection, intercourse and can even lead to a ruptured glans. The solution is frenuloplasty, a minor surgical procedure that lengthens the shortened foreskin to alleviate the above problems.

What is frenuloplasty?

Frenuloplasty is a minor surgical procedure that is performed to shorten the glans penis (frenulum breve). The frenulum is the strip of tissue that connects the glans to the foreskin.

What can cause a shortened foreskin?

Pain during erection.
Pain and bleeding during intercourse.
Pain on erection.
Tearing of the foreskin.
Premature ejaculation.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia. The shortened bridle is cut transversely and then sutured longitudinally with absorbable sutures. The entire procedure takes approximately 20 minutes.

After the procedure it is advisable to:

Limit physical activity for 3 to 5 days.
Avoid sexual intercourse for at least 4 weeks.
