Good posture is rather the exception these days.

Posture, technically referred to as posture, is the way we naturally carry and balance our body at rest and in motion. Correct posture is the result of a balance between muscles, bones, and the nervous system. If this balance is disturbed, a number of health problems can arise, ranging from back pain to more serious complications.

Poor posture most often manifests itself in the cervical and lumbar spine, as well as in the shoulder blades, shoulders, chest, and hips. However, improper posture can also affect the lower limbs and the proper functioning of internal organs.

How does poor posture manifest itself in children and adults?

Symptoms and signs of poor posture include:

  • Back, cervical spine, or shoulder pain
  • Feeling of stiffness and tension in the muscles
  • Frequent headaches or migraines
  • Limited mobility and faster fatigue during physical activity
  • Body asymmetry – for example, one shoulder higher than the other
  • Impaired breathing (a rounded back limits lung capacity)

You only have one health. If you feel pain or notice changes in your posture (e.g., poor posture in children), are interested in proper posture when walking or sitting, don't hesitate to make an appointment with us for an examination.

Why choose treatment at ATODA?

Correct posture is not just a matter of aesthetics. It has a fundamental impact on the health of the musculoskeletal system and internal organs. Our general practitioner, in collaboration with a physiotherapist, can:

  • Distinguish between a common functional disorder and a more serious illness,
  • recommend appropriate therapy,
  • prevent deterioration and irreversible changes.

At ATODA Medical, we take care of you thanks to a comprehensive approach, combining medical care with physiotherapy and modern methods to achieve the best possible results.

Your health will be taken care of by a team of experienced professionals, consisting of specialized doctors and therapists (such as a pediatrician (Prague) or pediatric physiotherapist (Prague)) with many years of experience. We will prepare an individualized therapy plan for you that is tailored precisely to your needs and lifestyle.

To do this, we use modern equipment and work with the latest approaches in diagnostics and rehabilitation to make your treatment as effective and sustainable as possible.

What are the consequences of not seeking treatment?

If you ignore posture problems, they can gradually develop into:

  • Chronic back and cervical spine pain,
  • Herniated intervertebral discs,
  • Musculoskeletal disorders,
  • Breathing difficulties and impaired blood circulation,
  • Degenerative changes in the spine that are irreversible.

So don't wait until the problems get worse. Seeing a doctor early on is key. Doctors can recommend a suitable orthopedic corrector for proper posture, or a back posture corrector. Only a specialist can determine if other types of therapy and treatment are needed.

Therapy and treatment: posture corrector

If you suffer from back pain or poor posture, regular exercises for correct posture and appropriate aids can help.

A frequently recommended solution is an orthopedic back corrector, which helps to relax overworked muscles and supports the spine. A special posture corrector is also very popular, serving as an effective prevention against the development of chronic problems.

Some patients also choose a back support belt, which stabilizes the lumbar and thoracic spine, or a modern posture corrector for poor posture, which helps improve posture during everyday activities. To prevent recurrence of problems, it is often necessary to determine a long-term exercise plan.

In cases of poor posture, our doctors may recommend:

  • Physiotherapy and rehabilitation (individually guided exercises focused on proper muscle activation)
  • Medical diagnostics (identifying causes and ruling out more serious diseases)
  • Ergonomic recommendations (adjustment of the work environment and daily habits)
  • Relaxation and mobilization techniques (relaxation of overworked muscles)

Contact us. We will relieve your pain, but we will also provide guidance on how to solve problems in the long term and how to prevent them.

Poor posture can be caused by several factors

There are several triggers for poor posture. The most common are:

  • Prolonged sitting at a computer or behind the wheel
  • Lack of exercise and weakening of the deep stabilizing system
  • Incorrect habits when walking or standing
  • Overloading with one-sided activities (e.g., carrying heavy bags on one shoulder)
  • Stress and mental tension, which affects muscle tension
  • Injuries and subsequent compensatory mechanisms of the body

Types of posture disorders

Sometimes a posture corrector (posture subsequently improves) or other support such as a corset can help, but most of the problems mentioned below require thorough consultation with a doctor.

  • Kyphotic posture (rounded or bent back)
  • Increased curvature in the lower back, or lumbar hyperlordosis
  • Scoliosis of the spine (sideways curvature of the spine)
  • Flat back (insufficient curvature of the spine)
  • A combination of the above deformities, for which a posture corrector may not be sufficient.
