OCT examination (Prague)

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the eye is a modern diagnostic method that provides a detailed insight into the structure of the eye. This technology has become a key tool in ophthalmology.

The OCT eye examination works on the principle of interferometry and uses high-frequency light to create a detailed image of the tissues of the eye. During the examination, a weak beam of light is directed into the patient's eye and reflected off the various layers of the eye. The difference in the time it takes for the reflected light to return to the detector is then measured. This process allows a detailed, high-resolution image of the eye's microstructure to be created.

OCT eye examination

Through OCT eye examinations, the eye doctor has the ability to identify and monitor a wide range of eye diseases, including:

  • Macular degeneration (OCT of the macula): a degenerative disease of the retina that can lead to gradual loss of vision,
  • Glaucoma: a disease characterised by damage to the optic nerve and progressive loss of vision,
  • diabetic retinopathy: a complication of diabetes that can lead to damage to blood vessels in the retina and loss of vision,
  • and others.

What are the advantages of OCT examinations at ATODA Medical?

OCT examinations offer a number of advantages:

  • High resolution: provides a detailed image of the microstructure of the eye,
  • speed: the examination is quick and non-invasive,
  • accuracy: it helps doctors accurately diagnose and monitor the progression of eye diseases,
  • non-surgical: does not require surgery and minimises the risk of complications.

We provide comprehensive medical care under one roof (eyelid surgery, for example, is popular in our eye department) in a beautifully renovated historic building. We are easily accessible by car and public transport. We only employ highly qualified ophthalmologists who always have enough time for every patient. Our staff are able to do this primarily because you can make an appointment for a precise time, therefore avoiding long waits. Don't hesitate to make an appointment today.

An OCT scan is a non-invasive and quick process that usually takes a few minutes. The patient is asked to position themselves in front of the OCT machine while the doctor or technician performs a scan of the eye. The patient may be given a drop in the eye to dilate the pupil and improve image quality. After the scan is complete, the doctor analyzes the images and discusses the results with the patient.

If you have an OCT eye exam with us, the price and the entire procedure will be explained to you in great detail.
