Skin formations known as Pigmented Nevi

Pigmented nevi represent a common phenomenon in the field of dermatology, based on the excessive production of the pigment melanin in cells called melanocytes. These skin formations are often harmless, but their diversity and possible changes require attention and regular monitoring.

Pigmented nevi can occur on various parts of the body, including the face, neck, arms, legs, and back. Their location may be influenced by genetics and exposure to sunlight. Pigmented nevi can be simplistically divided into common and atypical.

What kind of pigmented nevi to watch out for?

A common pigmented nevus, also known as a melanocytic nevus, has a brown color in various shades. An important characteristic is homogeneous, even coloring. The borders are sharp, and the edges are regular. The nevus can be either at the level of the surrounding skin or elevated, possibly with a wart-like appearance. Removal is recommended for skin formations of this type and stage in areas where they are mechanically irritated, most commonly under bra straps, on the soles of the feet, or in friction areas.

Among other types of pigmented nevi are the atypical ones. This type is also called a dysplastic nevus, irregularly colored with irregular edges and occasional itching. There is a higher risk of transition from benign to malignant variants, and therefore, they should be completely removed as quickly as possible.

Both types of pigmented nevi require attention and regular monitoring to detect any changes or risks associated with skin lesions on time. Send a photo or come in for an examination right away. Removing moles prevents future problems.

Pigmented nevus? Removal and treatment at ATODA Medical

The removal of moles is preceded by a careful dermatological examination, which diagnoses potentially dangerous nevi. A surgeon at ATODA Medical removes the nevi with malignant potential under local anesthesia in our comfortable small operating room. Each surgically removed nevus is sent for a histological examination to exclude malignant melanoma.

The removal of moles with a laser is performed on common nevi that bother patients or are mechanically repeatedly irritated.

I go to Dr. Podstolska with my one-year-old daughter. I am very satisfied with her individual approach, willingness to solve even seemingly small things. Of course, she is professional and friendly at the same time. I'm also glad for the pleasant office with a play rug, heating over the changing table, the possibility to drive a stroller up to the office. The care of the nurses and their assistance during appointments is absolutely above and beyond. I also appreciate the texting system that reminds me of my check-up/exam appointment in a timely manner.

So far we've had only good experiences with doctors at Atoda. The detmatologist was great and managed to treat a terrible infection and an endless eczema in our boy. The pediatrician is always very nice and a good listener, so is the GP and the gynegologist. All of them always caring and helpful when needed.
