Systemic lupus erythematodes

Lupus, also known as systemic lupus erythematodes (SLE), is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks its own healthy tissues and organs. This condition can affect different parts of the body and its manifestations vary from patient to patient.

At our private clinic, ATODA Medical, we offer comprehensive care for lupus patients. Our experts specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune diseases and provide a personalized approach to therapy. With our advanced diagnostic methods and top rheumatologists, we provide comprehensive care for your health, including treatment for scleroderma.

Warning signs: lupus is very diverse

Lupus is often dubbed the "disease of a thousand faces" because its symptoms can be so varied. Do you think you have lupus? Symptoms may include:

  • Fatigue: Intense exhaustion that does not go away even after rest.
  • Joint and muscle pain: Inflammation can cause pain and stiffness in the joints, especially in the hands, wrists and knees.
  • Rashes: Lupus often manifests itself in red rashes that typically appear on the face in a butterfly shape.
  • Photosensitivity: sun sensitivity can worsen rashes or trigger new skin problems.
  • Fevers: Repeated fevers for no apparent reason.
  • Blood changes: Patients with lupus may have anemia or low white or red blood cell counts.
  • Chest pain: Lupus can cause inflammation in the lungs or heart, leading to pain.

Symptoms can be mild, but if lupus is left untreated, serious complications can occur.

Lupus: a disease of several types, one of which is discoid lupus

There are different forms of lupus, with each type manifesting itself differently:

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE): the most common and most severe form, which can affect any organ in the body.
  • Discoid lupus erythematosus (discoid lupus): primarily affects the skin, causing rashes, often on the face and scalp.
  • Drug-induced lupus: Lupus can be triggered by certain medications, but symptoms usually subside after the drug is stopped.
  • Neonatal lupus: A rare form that affects newborns if the mother suffers from lupus.

Cutaneous lupus: treatment is not clear-cut

Our skin care (Prague) can help you cure the autoimmune disease lupus. Since lupus is a chronic disease, there is no definite cure for its complete cure.

Therapy focuses on managing symptoms and preventing complications. Treatment also varies depending on whether your lupus hurts or itches, and common treatments include:

  • Anti-inflammatory drugs: they relieve pain and inflammation.
  • Immunosuppressants: They help dampen overactive immune system.
  • Corticosteroids: Quickly reduce inflammation.
  • Antimalarials: Substances such as hydroxychloroquine are effective in treating lupus.

Why go to the doctor for an examination?

Lupus is a complex disease that can damage many organs and tissues. Early diagnosis and proper treatment can prevent serious complications and improve the patient's quality of life. Rheumatological diseases are increasing in number and our doctors also deal with Sjogren's disease or autoimmune vasculitis.

Do you have questions? Do you need an examination? Schedule a consultation, call our phone number or email us through our website. Don't wait, visit our rheumatology department, lupus requires prompt and proper treatment!

What are the consequences of untreated lupus?

If lupus is not treated, serious health problems can occur, including:

  • Kidney failure: kidney inflammation can lead to kidney damage or failure.
  • Heart problems: Lupus can cause inflammation of the heart muscle, which increases the risk of heart attack.
  • Lung damage: Inflammation can lead to permanent scarring of the lungs.
  • Nervous disorders: Untreated lupus can cause nervous system disorders, including seizures or changes in behavior.
  • Increased risk of infections: Lupus weakens the immune system, making you more susceptible to infections.

That's why it's important for people with suspected lupus not to hesitate to seek medical attention.
