Arthritis of the knee (gonarthrosis of the 2nd and 3rd degree)

Knee arthrosis, also known as gonarthrosis (Latin: arthrosis genus), is a degenerative disease of the knee joint that causes gradual wear and tear of the articular cartilage. Without early treatment and appropriate therapy, the patient's mobility and quality of life can be severely limited. Seeking early professional help from a rheumatologist is therefore crucial.

Osteoarthritis is divided into several stages according to the severity of cartilage damage.

What is grade 1 gonarthrosis? This is mild wear and tear, the pain is usually mild and the joint is still functioning well. Other grades include:

  • Grade 2 arthrosis: Moderate wear and tear, the presence of more severe pain and stiffness.
  • Grade 3 arthrosis: Significant cartilage loss, limited movement and daily pain.
  • Grade 4 arthrosis: Complete cartilage wear, with bones rubbing together and the patient having significant limitations in movement.

Grade 2 gonarthrosis of the knee: triggers

Grade 2 knee arthrosis most commonly develops as a result of various risk factors, including:

  • Age: Wear and tear of the cartilage is more common as you get older. Sometimes referred to as primary gonarthrosis because it occurs without a clear cause or obvious triggering factor and is often associated with the natural aging process.
  • Excessive stress on the joints: especially in overweight people or athletes with high stress on the knees.
  • Knee injuries: Injury to the meniscus or ligaments can accelerate degenerative processes in the joint.
  • Heredity and genetic predisposition: Genetic factors can influence the structure of cartilage and its susceptibility to wear.

Early diagnosis and treatment of arthritis can slow the progression of the disease and relieve symptoms. An examination by a doctor will help determine the degree of damage and establish an appropriate treatment plan, giving the patient the opportunity to maintain mobility and avoid difficult operations in the future.

Knee arthrosis grade 2: treatment of knee arthrosis

Are you suffering from arthritis? At ATODA Medical we offer a wide range of treatment options. Common therapies include:

  • Physiotherapy: rehabilitation exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee.
  • Hyaluronic acid or corticosteroid injections or joint nutrition for arthritis: These help reduce pain and inflammation, improve mobility and slow down the natural wear and tear of cartilage.
  • Kinesiotaping and bracing.
  • Pharmacological treatment: pain-relieving drugs using non-steroidal antirheumatic drugs.
  • Plasma therapy and other modern methods: Promote regeneration of damaged cartilage and slow down degeneration.

Beginning arthrosis of the knee: symptoms

Symptoms of arthritis of the knee are often mild at first, but can worsen over time. The most common symptoms include:

  • Pain: Especially with exertion, movement or, conversely, after sitting for long periods. In the beginning, our department of orthopaedics (Prague) mainly deals with.
  • Joint stiffness: Especially in the morning or after a long period of rest.
  • Restricted range of motion: The knee cannot be bent or straightened completely.
  • Twitching and cracking in the knee during movement.
  • Swelling of the knee joint.
  • Deformity of the joint in advanced stages.

Don't wait until your condition gets worse. Seek professional help as soon as possible.
