We solve ingrown toenails effectively and quickly

An ingrown toenail is a painful condition where the edge of the nail (usually on the big toe) grows into the surrounding skin. This causes irritation, inflammation, swelling and often tissue overgrowth over the nail. Nail ingrowth is a common problem that can occur in people of all ages and can worsen if not treated in time.

At ATODA Medical, we provide top-notch medical care and address ingrown toenail in children and adults. Our specialists have years of experience in diagnosing and treating this condition, whether through conservative or surgical procedures. With modern equipment and a personalised approach, treatment of ingrown toenails will be quick and effective. If you are suffering from ingrown toenails, treatment at ATODA Medical will bring you relief from the pain.

An ingrown toenail can plague you

An ingrown toenail usually accompanies:

  • Pain and tenderness in the area of the affected nail, especially when walking or touching it.
  • Redness and swelling around the nail.
  • Inflammation, even suppuration of the ingrown toenail.
  • Bleeding at the site of overgrowth.
  • In advanced stages, new tissue may overgrow and worsen the problem.

If an ingrown toenail is not treated, more serious complications can occur. Untreated conditions can lead to chronic infection, that can spread to the bone (osteomyelitis). Especially people with diabetes or circulatory problems are at increased risk of serious complications that can lead to gangrene and the need for amputation. Therefore, you should not delay seeing a doctor and consult our doctors at the first sign of symptoms.

Ingrown toenails can be caused by several reasons. Among the most common are:

  • Poor hygiene or improper nail care - Cutting nails too short or unevenly can lead to ingrowth into the skin.
  • Tight or inappropriate footwear - Tight footwear puts pressure on the nail and surrounding area, which can cause pressure on the edges of the nail and encourage ingrowth.
  • Injury to the nail - Physical trauma to the nail, such as from a kick or dropping a heavy object on the foot, can cause deformation and subsequent ingrowth.
  • Genetics - In some individuals, the nail may have a naturally curved shape, which increases the risk of ingrowth.
  • Foot deformities - The presence of deformities such as a flat foot or bunions can increase the risk of an ingrown toenail.

Ingrown toenail and its treatment

How to get rid of ingrown toenail and what to do about it?

The treatment of ingrown toenail depends on the stage of the disease, its severity and individual patient factors such as general health, presence of infections or other risk factors (e.g. diabetes). The goal of treatment is to relieve pain, remove the cause of the ingrowth and prevent further tissue damage.

If you have an ingrown toenail, treatment often requires surgery. The ingrown nail is then removed in our surgery (Prague). Any plastic surgery of the nail bed is performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia.
